Students at IRGPS have a variety of fun recess activities everyday. To promote a fun English learning environment, every Friday students come to the English Room and sign up to play various games and play with e-books. Helpful students in P4 to P6 volunteer to be Game Stars, and teach younger students how to play the games and enjoy their English learning journey.
On Monday and Tuesday mornings students are free to join our story session as our NET reads a selection of books to appeal to students of all ages. It's a nice way for students to start the week and promotes a love of books among students.
To enhance our school-based curriculum in key stage one, we have integrated the Space Town Literacy Programme and English to Enjoy textbooks. At the beginning of each unit students receive language input through shared reading, songs, games and fun activities. They are then guided to use the language structures taught as they complete the process writing and present their work. As part of an e-learning promotion we are making use of the seesaw app to share and celebrate students’ work with classmates.
In Key Stage two, process writing forms an integral part of the school-based curriculum. Local teachers work closely with our NET to develop units of work that allow students to practice what they have learnt and introduce new language items and structures. We have integrated technology to enhance our lessons. Every unit students use the Seesaw app to access appropriate input for their writing. Then, the initial writing stages are done using traditional pencil and paper and in class teacher-student conferencing. Lastly, students use the Seesaw platform to make final corrections to their work before publishing via the class blog where they can view and comment on final pieces.
